Wii!
I finally got to check out the Nintendo Wii yesterday. A friend of ours waited in line the night before the release and was able to purchase one the day it came out. He’s nice enough to share the great experience with us. After playing for a couple of hours and watching others play, there was only one thing I could think of is “I Want one!”
We played mostly the Wii sports games that came with game console. The Wii Sports include tennis, baseball, golf, bowling and boxing. What’s so special about the Wii is that its remotes (instead of controllers) are motion sensitive. To play tennis, one just needs to hold the remote in hand and swing as if hitting the ball on a court. I enjoyed bowling and tennis, but my favorite had to be the boxing. I was holding the remote in one hand and the nunchuk in the other, and basically just started doing boxing motions. One could probably just wave the remotes rather softly and still get the motions across. But I was really getting into the game and punching hard, while moving my body to duck the opponent’s hits. My heart was racing fast and I was sweating a lot! I played for maybe 15 minutes and it was a great work out. Of course, my arms and neck area and back hurt like hell today. We also watched our friend play The Legend of Zelda. It was fun just watching. I think it’s fun because it’s more like a puzzle game that one has to figure out all the little secret doors and pathways. Plus it’s fun to wave a sword by simply wave your hand, instead of figuring out controller buttons sequences.
A couple hours spend with the Wii definitely was not enough. So I tried to call a couple stores today to see if I could find one available. None of the stores seem to have any in stock, and none of them knew when the next shipment would come in. Seeing that there’s no way that I’ll pay double the price on eBay, I guess i’ll have to wait till sometime next year to own my own Wii.
But, if you live somewhere that the Wii is in plenty supply, leave me a note!
